of hot news

AWAII REPORT- Sheldon Remington and Steve McGreevy spent several successful days on Kauaii demonstrating
that the Islands are indeed a good place for LF signals* On the NDB band they logged 340 beacons for
21 states, all Canadian presences front Quebec west and 57 countries total* A very high percentage of

thE J&St C ° ast ’ uora l0S9ed ' 12 was hG3td for ab0Llt Bn hD: ur from 2311 PST Jan 2Q (with considerable
UbBj* Initial reception was accomplished with a broad Radioshack receiver! Distance on this csth is
something over 24cD miles. Other Lifers mere not heard, primarily due to interferons from LW broadcast
stolons which are stacked uo ssteral deep on every channel. Z2 was lucky enough to be in the clear til
around micmght PST when the splatter came roering up on beth sides* negating any possibility of week signal
^.opy* Jr. fortunately Z2 was running slightly out of spec 1 ' at the tlfns end we bed no communication with

1 C 1S : a _T tenerSt 50 as y0t th * re is °™ im for dancing in the streets. Z2 was running between
1;5 and 2*5 U input at the time. Current in the antenna was 200 ma or less* Antenna was 30 ft vertical
with 12 19 ft rophat elements all atop--a massive radial and rot? ground system* I have not been able to
review the tapes yet, but from the reports it appears that reception would have been possible at levels as
ou as D*5W, Hopefully we will be able to undertake experiments in the future to confirm this* Employing
hi-tech options it should be possible to close the path with 0*1 til or less! Such are the virtues of an
over-water path* Can we make 3 hops next season?? Attempts to load the TLX transmitter into up revised
antennas were unsuccessful* efficiency was so poor that Steve and Shgldon decided they had better devote their
ime to listening, Now wc know it can be done (and apparently much mors easily than I had expected), there
v 5hDU ~ 6 be " mT * incentive for future expeditions and for a permanent 1750M presence on the islands.
